Lakovic auditions for Esposito Role

It was the September to remember, the 1972 Summit Series that saw the Canadian hockey team upset the Russian squad with the shot that was heard around the world.  Now a CBC TV mini-series will be created to honour the accomplishments of team Canada.  This historic event will be re-lived on film and Sasha Lakovic plans on once again partaking in a re-creation of history.  This time instead of the red CCCP jersey of the great Boris Mikhailov, he hopes to don the team Canada jersey of, series points leader and Canadian hero, Phil Esposito.  “I felt I nailed it, I can only hope that the casting director feels the same way”, states Lakovic.  Having played the role of Boris Mikhailov, star Russian centre in the Disney movie Miracle, Lakovic is no stranger to skating for film.  “This role is huge, and I would be absolutely honoured to play one of the greatest Canadian hockey legends to live.”  Summit Films and Dream Street Productions will bring one of the most significant events in Canadian history into our living rooms and once again send shivers up our backs and make us proud to say we’re Canadian.   Updates on the mini-series can be viewed at www.canadarussia72.com.

In other news, Lakovic is off suspension and back in Alberta playing for the Senior AAA Hockey team of Horselake Thunder, along side Theo Fluery, Gino Odjick, Dody Wood and brother Greg Lakovic.  In his first game back, on Saturday, he put up 2 points and had an impressive game.  They are one of the top favorites to win in their quest for the Allan Cup.  The Allan Cup is one of the oldest hockey cups in Canadian history, older than even the Stanley Cup.   Ironically, now that the NHL season is officially cancelled, it is rumoured that the Stanley Cup will be awarded to the victor of the Allan Cup.  Talk about another bit ironic history in the making.  An Internet broadcast of the Allan Cup semi-final games can be heard on www.storm-studios.com/broadcast.htm.  For updates on the progress of the Horselake Thunder visit their website forum at www.horselakethunder.com.

Sasha ”The Pitbull” Lakovic will be featured in a book on hockey enforcers.  The project known as ”Tough Guy Chronicles” has been in the making for the past six months.  The author, Jukka Suutari, hails from Finland and is no rookie on writing about tough guys. Last year, Suutari finished writing an autobiographical book on Sami Helenius who was the first Finnish player who molded his game in North America and became an enforcer in the NHL. With over 40 interviews with hockey pugilists under his belt, Suutari is no stranger when talking about hockey fights. Suutari himself has served 240 minutes in penalties in 31 career games. At one point, he was scheduled to participate in the Hockey Gladiators event. ”So far I have been able to confirm players from the minors, juniors and NHL,” Suutari explains.

“There are some legendary tough guys such as Jacques Mailhot, Terry Ryan, Dean Ewen, Kerry Toporowski and the infamous Sasha Lakovic. I haven’t neglected the young guns either.  I have confirmed Derek Boogaard, Jonathan Tremblay and Eric Neilson to participate in this project”, He says.

”The project first started out as a book about minor league tough guys. As time went on, I was able to reach players who had some NHL experience, so I basically had to rename the title of the project. This upcoming book allows the legendary minor league players to tell their stories and will also let the young guns speak before they have reached their dream – playing in the NHL.”

A book release date has not been confirmed yet but a press release will be broadcast about the release once confirmed.

"My Yugoslavian accent is close to Russian," Lakovic said. "When the directors came in, I just put on a show."
He made the show, participating in a sequel to a real-life drama he can't remember.
"I didn't really understand the whole thing because I was only eight or nine," Lakovic said. "When I saw Brooks [on the set], it really dawned on me."
Denis Gauthier spent part of his first pro season in Saint John rooming with legendary wild child Sasha Lakovic.
"He was a great guy and I had a great time rooming with him but he had an intense attitude and personality.
He worked out at the rink in the buff and he ran stadium stairs after games wearing nothing but a jockstrap.
But it's what Sasha Lakovic did during his first and only Battle of Alberta appearance that will ensure he's forever remembered as a Flame.
NHL's Lakovic Joins Sting Lakovic, who has served as the enforcer for both the New Jersey Devils and the Calgary Flames, put on an inline hockey clinic in his first game with the Philadelphia Sting last Sunday night. Lakovic scored four of the Sting's five goals as they defeated the Carolina Crushers 5-4 and earned the Sting's first victory of the season.
